1. 2025 Spring Update
Winter is typically thought of as the 'quiet' month, but not here at the Alpha Omega Clinic!! Some of you will have already noticed a change of face at the reception desk.

Farewell to Melissa

We are so sad to say goodbye to our wonderful office manager, Melissa, and her fluffy companion Louie, as they have moved back to the North Island to begin a new chapter. Mel has been such an important part of our team for the past eight years, and we are incredibly grateful for all the care, warmth, and dedication she has given us and our patients. She will be deeply missed, and we wish her and Louie all the best in this next stage of their journey.

Meet Jenna – Our New Office Manager

We’re excited to welcome Jenna to the Alpha Omega Clinic team as our new Office Manager, taking over from Melissa. With her warm, friendly personality and approachable nature, Jenna has quickly become an integral part of our clinic family.

Jenna comes from a strong administrative background and is no stranger to the office environment. However, for the past 14 years, her main focus has been raising her two wonderful children as a stay-at-home mum — a role she describes as both rewarding and full of life’s daily adventures. More recently, she worked from home in outbound sales.

Now, stepping back into an office role, Jenna says the change has been “a blessing in disguise.” She’s loving the opportunity to meet patients face-to-face, build genuine relationships, and be part of a supportive team environment. Her passion for creating a positive experience for everyone who walks through our doors shines through in everything she does.

Outside of work, Jenna’s world is still wonderfully busy, often filled with after-school activities and family life. But she also knows the importance of making time for herself. You’ll often find her hiking in the beautiful surrounding hills, tending to her garden, or curled up with a good book — recharging her energy so she can bring her best self to both home and work.

We’re thrilled to have Jenna on board and can’t wait for you to get to know her!

2. Practitioner Updates
Dr Carl:
Spring is here and I am sure many of you have experienced the increase in sickness around you. Another big thing that I am seeing is injuries as we start to get out and exercise more after the long winter. Here are three important tips to prevent injury in your spring exercise routine.
-
If your exercise routine has stepped back over winter, don’t try to pick up where you left off.
a. Start out easily, maybe 25% intensity of where you were at 50% duration
b. From that starting point, listen to your body and increase your exercise back to your desired level
c. A personal trainer is a great way to do this effectively -
Make sure you warm up effectively before exercising. Your body will take more time to get ready for exercise after a prolonged break than it did previously.
-
Drink plenty of water a few weeks before getting back into exercise. Over winter most of us don’t drink enough water. Dehydration combined with intense exercise is another good way to get an injury
I hope these tips help you get into an injury free spring exercise plan, and we hope to see you for some maintenance care in the next quarter. Or if needed we are here to help with any injuries and illness sustained this spring.

Chiropractor
Dr Rachel:
Recently, I’ve noticed two main concerns with new patients: head injuries and hip/low back pain.
For head injuries, many are coming in after falls or minor accidents that have led to concussions. Even when symptoms seem mild, people often experience headaches, dizziness, fatigue, or difficulty concentrating. These issues usually point to underlying imbalances in the neck, jaw, and spine, which affect how the nervous system communicates and heals. Alongside chiropractic care, gentle rehabilitation exercises — such as balance work, light coordination drills, and simple eye-tracking movements — can help retrain the brain and restore stability after an injury.
With hip and low back pain, the pattern I’ve been seeing is that symptoms are worsening as people increase their activity. Cycling, running, or even spending more time gardening can highlight old imbalances in the pelvis, hips, and lower spine. When these areas aren’t moving evenly, muscles tighten to compensate, which leads to pain and stiffness. Chiropractic treatment helps correct these imbalances, but strengthening and retraining movement patterns are equally important to keep the spine and hips working together long term.
If you’ve been struggling with either of these issues, it’s a reminder that pain usually isn’t just about “overdoing it” but about how the body is balanced (or imbalanced) underneath. Addressing those root causes makes recovery quicker—and helps prevent the same issues from coming back.

Only 1 more seminar left for the year!

November 4th - Digestion & IBS
These gatherings are designed to bring the community together to learn and grow in a supportive environment. Bring your family, RSVP on our website, and join us for an evening of connection and education.
For your convenience, seminar videos will be available on a secure portal on our website for up to one month after each seminar. To access these, simply ask our team for the password via email, call, or during your next clinic visit. If you’d like to watch a video of a past seminar, let us know, and we’ll be happy to send it to you.
As this was a new addition to our practice this year, we'd love your feedback! Would you like to see more in-house talks next year? Would an online seminar work better? Or are you simply more interested to have a pre-recorded seminar emailed through to watch at your leisure?
6. Health Talk: Spring into Comfort: How Chiropractic Care Can Help After Winter
After months of cold weather and cozying up indoors, it’s normal to feel stiff, sore, or low on energy. Winter can leave your muscles tight, joints achy, and posture out of sync. Chiropractic care may help get your body back on track! Gentle adjustments, simple stretches, and practical tips from your chiropractor may improve your flexibility, ease discomfort, and help you feel lighter, more mobile, and ready to enjoy the season. Give your body the boost it needs to move freely and feel great this spring!
