2. Practitioner Updates
Dr Carl:
Recently, I had the opportunity to spend the weekend attending the annual Chiropractic Conference, where I listened to a range of inspiring speakers discussing the latest advancements in chiropractic technology and care.
One of the highlights was hearing from Mike Marinus, a chiropractor who focuses on paediatric neurology from the UK, who shared valuable insights into children's neurological development and developmental patterns.
The conference provided a fantastic opportunity to further my knowledge and skills in this area, particularly around how chiropractors can support the developing nervous system and overall wellbeing of children. I look forward to bringing this knowledge back into the clinic and continuing to provide the best possible care for our patients.

Dr Rachel:
I recently attended a paediatric chiropractic seminar designed specifically to help chiropractors further develop their understanding and approach to caring for babies and children. Ongoing education is something I am passionate about, and I always enjoy bringing new knowledge and ideas back to the clinic.
Recently, I have been seeing many little ones experiencing challenges with sleep, excessive crying, discomfort, and finding tummy time difficult. This seminar provided valuable insights and additional ways to assess and support your child’s developmental, digestive, and musculoskeletal health, allowing me to continue providing the best care possible for our youngest patients.
A Personal Challenge
Outside of the clinic, I recently travelled to Taupō to take part in the Pillar to Pou race. Although it wasn’t originally part of the plan, I somehow found myself completing a half marathon! It was an incredible challenge and achievement, and I can honestly say the treatment from Dr Carl on Monday morning afterwards was very much appreciated — absolute bliss!

4. The "WHY" Behind The Supplement
Ultra Flora NeuroSupport
When we think about our mental wellbeing, we often focus on the brain — but did you know your gut plays an important role too?
Researchers now recognise the powerful connection between the gut and the brain, known as the gut-brain axis. This two-way communication system means that the health of our digestive system can influence many aspects of wellbeing, including our response to stress, mood, relaxation, and our ability to achieve restorative sleep.
There are several specialised probiotics containing clinically researched strains that have been selected to support the gut–brain connection, helping to promote a healthy stress response and emotional wellbeing.
Because stress and an overactive mind are common barriers to a good night's sleep, supporting a balanced gut–brain connection may also help the body transition more easily into a state of calm and relaxation — both important foundations for quality sleep.
At The Alpha Omega Clinic, we believe true health starts from within. By supporting the body’s interconnected systems, including the digestive system, nervous system, and sleep cycle, we can help you work towards feeling calmer, more balanced, and better equipped to take on the day.
If you would like to know whether Ultra Flora NeuroSupport could be a suitable addition to your wellness routine, speak with one of our practitioners at your next visit.

6. Health Talk: The Importance of Sleep & How Chiropractic Care Can Support You
We spend approximately one-third of our lives sleeping, yet it is often the first thing we sacrifice when life becomes busy.
Quality sleep is essential for our body’s ability to rest, recover, and repair. It influences everything from our energy levels and mood to our immune function, concentration, and overall wellbeing.
During sleep, our body undergoes vital processes including tissue repair, hormone regulation, memory consolidation, and nervous system recovery. When sleep is disrupted or we consistently miss out on quality rest, we may experience increased stress, reduced energy, difficulty concentrating, and a decreased ability to cope with the demands of everyday life.
While chiropractic care is not a treatment for sleep disorders, many patients report improvements in their quality of sleep as they experience better movement, reduced physical tension, and improved comfort. Chiropractic care aims to support the function of the nervous system and improve spinal and musculoskeletal health, which may contribute to greater relaxation and overall wellbeing.
At The Alpha Omega Clinic, we take a whole-body approach to health. Through chiropractic care, lifestyle advice, and discussions around factors such as stress, movement, and recovery, we aim to support your body’s natural ability to function at its best.
If sleep has become a challenge for you, talk to our team at your next visit — together we can explore ways to support your health and help you move towards more restful nights.
7. Seven Simple Tips for a Better Night's Sleep
1. Stick to a Regular Sleep Schedule
Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day — even on weekends. A consistent routine helps regulate your body’s internal clock, making it easier to fall asleep and wake feeling refreshed.
2. Reduce Screen Time Before Bed
The blue light emitted from phones, tablets, and televisions can interfere with your body’s natural production of melatonin, the hormone that helps regulate sleep. Aim to switch off screens at least 30–60 minutes before bedtime.
3. Be Mindful of Caffeine & Alcohol
Caffeine can remain in your system for several hours and may affect your ability to fall asleep, while alcohol can disrupt the quality of your sleep. Consider limiting these, especially later in the day.
4. Move Your Body During the Day
Regular physical activity can help improve sleep quality, reduce stress, and support overall wellbeing. Even a gentle walk or stretching session can make a difference.
5. Create a Sleep-Friendly Environment
Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet. Comfortable bedding, a supportive pillow, and a relaxing bedtime routine can signal to your body that it is time to wind down.
6. Calm Your Nervous System Before Bed
If your mind is busy when your head hits the pillow, try relaxing activities such as deep breathing, gentle stretching, reading, journaling, or mindfulness practices to help prepare your body for restful sleep.
7. Listen to Your Body’s Natural Rhythm
Winter is a season that naturally encourages us to slow down, rest, and restore. If you’re feeling tired, allow yourself an earlier night — aim to be in bed by around 8:30pm during the winter months and around 9:30pm in summer where possible. Listening to your body’s cues and prioritising rest can be a simple yet powerful way to support your energy, recovery, and overall wellbeing.
